When I was thinking about this year’s tablescape, I wanted something simple and understated. Not too fussy and I really wanted to use what I had on hand.
I did that mostly… I bought gnomes and the napkins and black ornaments this season. I had a table runner and grey beads from the Fall season, so I say that counts as having them on hand and not buying them new ;)
Things to think about before you start:
Color/Theme
Layers
Textures
What do you already own
How many guest
Things to gather:
Dishes, cutlery, glassware and napkins
Table cloth, table runner, placemats or chargers, you can use one of these or all of these the more you use the more layered your table will look.
A vase, pitcher or some kind of container to put flowers or greenery in, (watch the height here – you want your guest to be able to see each other from across the table)
Flowers or greenery
You can stop here and have an absolutely beautiful table to host your guests.
If you want to kick it up a notch here are some ideas:
Books- they can add height, interest and color
Beads or a small garland- adds another layer
Candles, ornaments of varied size shape and color
really any small accessories you can think of.
Have fun here, let your style, taste and personality shine!
So this is how I created a simple and understated with a hint of whimsy and charm tablescape.
The Centerpiece
We will start with the centerpiece. My base is this fabulous table runner. Iin and of itself it doesn’t scream Christmas. It’s a grey plaid with white, red and yellow running through it.
Next, I added the long breadboard for texture and height. Then came the vintage white pitcher and I added a red string of beads trailing out of it and topped the pitcher off with lambs ear from the Fall season.
Here comes the fun part! I knew I want this table to be fun so I added a grey chubby nome, the ho ho ho sign, that my Mom-in-law gave me, some red, white and black ornaments. I added black books I got from the thrift store to add height, interest and the color black, topped it all off with a grey set of beads and a candle.
Now for the place settings.
I started off with the black chargers and moved into the white and silver china we got for our wedding. The red and grey napkins are new this year and they came in a set of 12 from Marshalls.
I love holiday crackers, that is what the silver tubular thing is on the plate, they are so fun to pass the time while the host puts the finishing touches on the meal. It’s also a great icebreaker and conversation starter.
To top it off those cute little gnomes came from Real Deals. I used them as place/napkin holders. You could easily write your guests’ names on a piece of paper and add it to the nomes cap.
I hope you have fun building your tablescape this season and I hope you find this inspiring but most of all I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
Cheers!
